“The Edge” News Letter

A New Year, New Fun Fellowship, Issue 6, 04/02/1999

Subscriptions

A new year and subscriptions are due. It is a little different this year, here is what you do: If you are a leader in the Scout Association make a donation to Trudy (min£1). If you are a Venture Scout and you pay subs to your group, membership is free. If you are not a leader at all you must pay the full fee (which this year is significantly increased due to new County and National levies) of £15.00 to Trudy. The situation regarding Guide leaders is unresolved, assume you should make a donation, but due to the new membership card scheme affecting all of Scouting (not just us) you may need to pay National Levy or worse. More details when we have them. Cheques made payable to “The Edge Scout Fellowship Hertford District”. We need this money within the next two months! Your membership card is essential as it is your insurance ticket and your guarantee of access to activity centres. The Scout movement is going to be a lot tougher on this! There are no more free years, there has had to be some changes regarding the whole Fellowship. If you are having trouble with the money pelase talk to us, we can resolve it!

Past Events

Chamber’s pot was well supported and we won! So we are running the competition next year. Even better supported was the Christmas Do and all who attended enjoyed themselves. A small contingent from “The Edge” together with a few (Uggi is very sorry about this) from the rest of the Fellowship lost the bowling challenge against Stevenage at the start of this year.

“A little more water with your quiz sir?”

We intend to hold monthly events. We will still try and have an event in the first week of the month. In February we will have the standard pub quiz, but in March we intend to go to to Aquasplash in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday (7th) afternoon. Meet at 3.00pm at the site, cost £4.80/head. We may, in future do other events and may visit more profitable pub quizzes.

County Quiz

Fresh from our success at the Chamber’s Pot we can show our superiority (or otherwise) against Fellowship teams on Saturday, 20th March. A supper is included (cost £5) and it will be in Harpenden, more details when we get them!

Largin’ it in London

It is planned to spend a weekend in London, from Easter Saturday, probably at Baden Powell house. Being centrally located means that we can do anything as most of London is instantly to hand. This is in place of the “The Edge Go Mad In Dorset” and is still in the preliminarly stages, but expect some more information on it soon.

Practice Camp For Watton-at-Stone Scouts

Graham, night hike supremo has asked us to help out as service crew for a practice camp (British Legion Competion) for his Scouts. This will involve us just making sure that the kids know how to put up/pack away a tent and other such tasks. There will be time off and Graham is bribing us with take aways, a warm hut and zero cost! This should actually be very good fun as it won’t all be kids, we should have time to ourselves and Graham is providing the programme. The camp will be from the 10th-11th of April and will be at Harmergreen Wood, which is a lot less primitive than it used to be (the loos have lights).

Harmergreen Service Crew

Because we love the camp site so much we will be visiting it 1st-2nd May (Bank Holiday) to help improve the site. As before if you turn up and work there will be no fee and free BBQ. The last one of these was a really good laff and enjoyed by all, despite the work load. We intend to invite some Venture Scouts and perhaps North Watford Young Fellowship.

Yellow Forms

New regs require our members on activities where children are present (inc Venture Scouts) to fill in a yellow form. This is not too difficult but does need to be done. These things will start cropping up at events. It only needs doing once!

The "Quick Programme" is to be found on the "notice board"
