Swami Dayananda

Hearing about the divinity of Swami Virjananandji, intense desire to meet him and learn & practise upon Vedic literature was awakened in Swami Dayananda. He went to the home of Swami Virjananandji in Mathura, India. Swami Virjananandji had this rule that he used to keep the doors closed at all times other than at the time of teaching. He did not like to meet the visitors unnecessarily.

Dayananda slowly knocked at the door. A question was asked from inside: "Who is it?"

"I have come at your door to know who I am", Dayananda replied humbly.

"Have you studied something also?"

Dayananda spoke about whatever he had studied but still the door was not opened. A voice was heard from inside the room:

"Forget about all the literature which you have studied till date. Until there is influence of books written by human-beings on your heart, the secrets of Vedantic Literature will not be able to enter your heart. If you have such books with you, then go & throw them in the Yamuna river."

How difficult it is throw away the books that one has been studying! But Dyananada was a very unique person. He threw all the books & all knowledge gained so far in Yamuna & came to Swamiji with a pure heart.

The doors were now opened for him. With Guru's grace Swami Dayananda was able to take the Hindus out of pretensions & illusions and published the knowledge of Vedas again in a new & simple style.

Salutations to such a disciple who surrendered his beliefs at the lotus feet of Gurudev!
