Real Self-Surrender

-Translated from a discourse given by Sant Shri Asaramji Bapu

Once a saint was travelling to some village on foot. On the way he felt very hungry. The village was very far away and therefore he thought:

"God is the care-taker of the whole world. Let me ask for food from Him. In any case He shall give food to His dear devotee."

The saint tried to overcome this desire & said to himself: "Oh! Why should I not have faith in God when I'm His true devotee? Isn't it true that God knows that I'm very hungry? The faithful devotee does not need to ask for anything from God!"

In this way the saint could make his mind understand. He could counter the evil-attack of the mind. Now the mind made another move. It said: "It is alright if you do not ask for food. Till when will you be able to stay hungry? Atleast ask for strength & patience to bear the hunger?"

Now the saint thought: "This is true. If not food, then there is no harm in asking for strength & patience."

At that very moment he heard the divine voice of God in his pure subconscious: "Am I who is the ocean of patience & strength, not always there with you? You are ready to ask for patience without accepting Me? Why are you bent on losing your faith & devotion? Is it that I do not give without you having asked for? I've already declared that I shall be responsible to take care of the needs of My true devotee..."

The saint found the true solution in his heart. His heart was overwhelmed with devotion & he said: "This is true Oh Lord! I was getting trapped in the windings of the mind. I'd forgotten Oh Lord! I'd forgotten!"

Let me search for that 'I' who had forgotten. When I sat down to search, I found the all-responsible, omnipresent, omniscient God. The petty desires & lust of the mind had kept me away from You till today. I'd given them the authority & that is why they were ruling over me. Until I did not realize the ever-existing relationship between You & me, I was in their control.

Thinking so the saint was immersed in His real form of supreme bliss...
