Skirmishing is the only real adrenalin pumping alternative to skiing. Essentially, every person that likes alpine skiing or snowboarding will enjoy skirmishing.
It incorporates a mixture of fast paced action and strategy to
keep everyone keen. Skirmish is good for young and old.
There are around fifteen playing fields featuring varied terrain and strategic attributes. During the day you will not get to play on all fields. Each game takes about 15-20 mins after which you take a short break to catch your breath, laugh about how easily Nathan wiped you out, then you swap sides to get slaughtered by Nathan again.
As each field has it’s own characteristics you will find your strategies changing and your learning curve increasing. A good strategy is to send in kamikazes to take out a hard to beat strategic strong point. However, unlike computer games real people don’t like to get shot (even if you don’t die). Splitting into squads is generally a conservative but useful tactic, so you need someone who will arrange squad groups and these squad leaders should then co-ordinate the attacks. A good option is to change the leader of your squad every game so everyone gets the chance. Most people don’t like selecting squads and squad leaders but to make most attacks or defences strong it is imperative that you have some communication base.
One great thing about skirmishing is that you have to adapt quickly, the situation changes from second to second. Pop Quiz: You’re a sniper, hiding in the bushes waiting for some unwary prey, when suddenly you’re surrounded, they got in behind your defences and now there’s no escape. What do you do? Well when that happened to me I came out of hiding like Rambo, blew away five shots in rapid succession. Wiped out two... then they fired back... all eight of them. It looked like I was being shot by a machine gun.
You’ll have the time of your life. See you on Saturday
