Sandra Devlin's Missing Links
I write a self-syndicated, weekly genealogy column in eight Martime newspapers:
Two in P.E.I. - The Guardian, Charlottetown and the Journal Pioneer, Summerside (bi-weekly).
Three in New Brunswick - The Times and Transcript in Moncton; The Miramichi Leader in Newcastle, Miramichi City; The Kings County Record, Sussex.
Three in Nova Scotia - The Daily News, Truro and The Bulletin and The Progress Enterprise, Bridgewater and Lunenburg, N.S.
Part of each column is devoted to FREE queries from family researchers.
Queries should be submitted in the same form as the sample below, using a
maximum of 35
words PLUS forwarding address information. Include your snail mail address for readers who
are not hooked to the Internet.
Forward your query to this email and please type Missing Links in the subject line. If you
prefer one newspaper over the other, please indicate preference in a separated note --
although it may not always be possible to comply with your preference.
Primary coverage areas: All of Prince Edward Island. In New Brunswick for The Times &
Transcript are: Albert, Kent, Kings, Northumberland and Westmorland counties. Area covered
by The Leader is primarily Northumberland County. The Kings County Record coverage
area is
primarily Kings County. The Truro Daily News covers all of Colchester County, parts of
southern Cumberland County and east Hants County in Nova Scotia. The Bulletin and Progress
Enterprise cover Lunenburg and Queens counties in Nova Scotia.
SAMPLE QUERY
HORSMAN - Who were parents of Alice Horsman born 1820 - died 1872; married
David James Mills (1816-1885). They lived in Moncton, N.B. Children: Rezin, Agusta,

Tips:
1. Keep your query focussed and provide useful clues for P.E.I., NB or Nova Scotian cousins.
2. Write individual queries for different family groups.
3. Separate notes to me (Sandra Devlin) from the query itself.
4. Write out words like born, died, married, daughter, etc. The columns
readership is not always accustomed to the shorthand of experienced family
researchers.
5. Write dates -- month, date, year - same logic as above.
6. PLEASE do not capitalize surnames in the text of query, only at the beginning.
Looking forward to receiving your query.
Sandra Devlin
