Comments: I enjoyed your web page. A very comprehensive resource list, the links are very useful. I was wondering if I might pick your brain. I am a program director for a Boy Scout camp in Monticello New York. For our older Scouts, we developed a program meant to hallenge and mentally engage the older boys. This years' theme is Survival. I was wondering if you had an suggestions as to challenging survival related activities that we could facilitate. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you -John

Comments: Have you ever thought about what you would carry if you had to go to the beach, there are not many things that you can carry on your person in a bathing suit or shorts. Also, in certain areas it is not possible to carry a large knife, have you thought ab ut using and training with a Yawara or Ebony stick (11" long, 3/4" wide). It is undetectable and very innocent looking, yet it is deadly in experianced hands like mine. By the way, you have a very informative site that is well written (i.e. no bull).
| Comments: DUDE!!! Thank GOD I found this site! ...I had never read Starship Troopers until I got to Ft.Benning, and then a guy in my unit gave it to me..AND THE LIGHTS WENT ON!! | Comments: Did my QL3 this summer, shortly after I clued into all this survival biz. Your site could use some info on short term bug-outs. I keep a bug-out bag in my basement and another a short distance from my house. In it is all the crap I'd take out in the field minus the weapons. |
Comments: Surprisingly enough not a lot of people are taking this stuff seriously.... Sad eh? Good site. I'm doing another winter warfare course in Labrador this febuary, pray my nads wont shrivel up and die.....

Comments: Very interesting page. I find it quite interesting that the contents of your kit very closely matches mine, though I shouldn't be TOO surprised considering we have similar backgrounds. A few items of mine are different such as the multi-function tool. Whereas you have a Swiss Army Champion, I went for the Leatherman Supertool with the locking blades and very sturdy needle-nose pliers. From your extended list, I noticed that you carry t o fixed-blade knives. I carry only one and that is a Busse Steelheart II. It costs more than both of your suggestions, so for some it is not really an option, but a knife is definitely one area where I won't scrimp. I also carry a folding knife on my ha ness which is a Benchmade AFO. My longarm is the AR15A2 flat-top w/Mark Brown sighting rail and Trijicon ACOG on a quick-release mount. Sidearm is the H&K USP45 (I just like the .45 better). Despite what some claim, the -A2 and later versions of the AR1 are very good rifles for short and intermediate ranges (50 to about 400m) when using the newer SS109 ammo. The majority of problems experienced with the rifles in their earliest forms actually originated with bad ammo design. The new 62-grain FMJBT w/ s eel penetrator works exceptionally well. This round does provide good penetration and does not "ricochet" off of twigs or leaves as some believe the earlier 55-grain bullets did. Some other suggestions : I didn't notice a mechanical waterpurifier in your kit. I keep two, one in the buttpack and the second in the larger pack (My Winter Pack is a CFP-90 and a Blackhawk Phoenix (Xlg 3-day pack) for the rest of the year). I also pac a bit more 550 cord (100'). I didn't notice a knife sharpener, I carry mine in a small pouch on an Eagle Sheath for the Busse Knife. You may also want to carry a bit more water in summer months. I have a 90-oz. Camelback-type bladder that fits in all my packs. They come with a drinking tube that I covered with OD tubular webbing and runds down the packstraps to a point right next to y mouth. No need to pull a canteen from it's pouch. I also carry lots of Potable Aqua iodine tablet bottles with me. Most of my basic SERE stuff stays on the harness and buttpack. If I have to lose the larger pack for mobility reasons, I can still subsist on what's carried on the harness. I also prefer the Mini-Maglite to the Code-4, it's superstition, really. I just like the Mini-Mags better. I also carry a more powerful Pelican 4-AA light. Both have red lens covers. To keep these juiced up, I have rechargeable AA batteries and a Solar echarger. All-in-all a good list. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. -Geoff
Comments: Very efficent, however blue text on black is very ugly. Keep it simple also, one main menu without a lot of graphics is what many look for. As far as weapons? Man, the AR-15 is a good gun, but you've gotta consider range and power an issue! The 0.223 is excellent for SHORT RANGE ASSAULT, but an FN-FAL Carbine in 7.62x51mm NATO is better, more powerful, at the sacrifice of weighing about one pound more and having more of a kick to it. Also, as good as the Glock 17 is, It lacks the versatility of say a P226 Sig Sauer, which is what I own. Also, the M-9, (Beretta) is a lot better at 'staying solid', and hasn't ever jammed, even during 'limp wrist' situations. I trust my M-9 more than any gun around, as it was designed by Italians and the US Marine Corp took it. (Not that I'd take it over the Gun-God of the M1991A1 by Colt). It's personal preferance as far as guns, but 9mm and 0.308 are good, as I wouldn't trust a bloody AR-15 with my life, as many grunts proved in Vietnam as they died cursing the jammed and complex weapon that they were given. I don't like that one bit. Survival gear? What about a flare gun? What about body armor? I can name hundreds of reasons to carry body armor on you all the time, most of them not even related to combat situations. Knives? If your all out for knives, half-seratted tantos are the way to go as far as utility, strength, versatility, and overall power. You can pierce a steel drum, cut through twine, and kill someone quite easily with a nice thick Tanto. Equipment is nothing without training, and I recommend anybody that even thinks about packing a survival kit should take a tape of classical music. Believe it or not, listenin' to classic music while you sleep improves restfulness and promotes quick and ccurate thinking among combat related and survival situations. It's up to you. «Ü DOCTOR FRED Ü» NOBODY CAN DO WHAT I CAN DO, NO

Comments: Due to the time constraints of these days I am forced to leave the perfect survival property, if there is such a thing....all set up and available. ..beautiful energy efficient 3200 s.ft. home (uses only two pickup loads of wood to heat and cook all winte ), complete guest house, 1000 sq.ft. heated / insulated outbuilding, barn, chicken coop, etc. Two sweet wells and springs. Irrigated rich topsoil produces three bountiful gardens in this remote and rare 'micro-climate' near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Jus walk out the door for elk, deer, trout, etc. I need to get these patents in production as we are running out of time to help...please call Mark at 970 264-2882 if you are interested or know of anyone who might be. Please, I'm short of time so serious nquiries only!
