The best would have to be Andy taking his first steps in cabin 2 at McGregor Mtn. Lodge. He started his Colorado hiking at a very young age.
On August 2, 2001, our entire family reached the summit of Long's Peak. Cheering each other up the home stretch and the group hug on the summit were incredible.
Have you ever experienced total silence? I did one morning on Trail Ridge Road. It was during our September vacation, I got up early to watch the sun come up and was treated to, what was for me, a once in a lifetime event. There wasn't another car on the road, no breeze, even the birds weren't singing. Total and complete silence. It was a beautiful experience.
It seems that most of my best memories are from our September trip, I guess we'd better do another one soon. Being the only early bird in the group, I'd usually be awake hours before anyone else on days when a major hike wasn't planned. One memorable morning I was the first person in the Bear Lake parking area. I took an easy stroll to Emerald Lake and relaxed on the shore. The lake was all mine, no one else showed up for over an hour.
