I found these beautiful moccasins while surfing here & there, long before I intended making this web page My system crashed and I lost my bookmarks so I don't have their URLs anymore. They are mostly from Canadien museums I think... I'd have to surf for days again trying to find their sources. They were found doing exhaustive searches on Quillwork over a period of months.
These are Mi'kmaq moccasins on the left. They are a combination of embroidery & beadwork. on smoked deerhide. Mi'kmaq nation is in the greater Maritimes, area of Canada; Nova Scotia-New Brunswick
. The pair below on the left are Seneca and done in quillwork, with ribbon edged cuffs. Beadwork is applied to the ribbon edges. Seneca nation are Keepers of the Western Door of the Iroquois Confederacy in western New York- southern Ontario area around Lake Erie
The Moccasins below on the right are done in moosehair embroidery. I think they are Huron. Huron nation is along the North side of the St Laurent-Southern Ontario around Lake Simcoe-Toronto area.
These beauties on the left are Seneca. The have some quillwork in combination with moosehair embroidery outlined with teeny/tiny size 20 or so white seed beads.
The black ones in the middle are non-tufted moosehair embroidery. On the right are Athabaskan Tufted Moosehair style embroidery moccasin. Northwest Territories Canada.
The Moccasins in the middle are Dakota and maybe on the left also ,the ones on the right are northern plains, maybe plains Cree?
