MINDORO IMPERIAL PIGEON (Ducula mindorensis)

Description: 35 cm. Male: with face, throat and forehead pinkish
gray; gray black ring around the eye and line extending behind; rest of
head and underparts pale gray. Mantle black merging with metallic copper
and bright green on back and wings. Tail glossed with blue, with a dark
gray band across the middle. Female: with chestnut margins to undertail
coverts. Bill black and feet red.
Distribution and habits: Confined to Mindoro where it is uncommon. Occurs in forested highlands above 1,400 meters although may come down to lower altitudes during the dry season after water. Feeds on large fruit. Usually seen in pairs, sometimes in threes and fours. Voice: penetrating booming note. Little information is available on this species. From Birds of the Philippines by P. C.
