NewsJuly 28, 1998FLASH FLOOD THREATENS TREKKERS We were in Majayjay, Imelda falls last weekend with CSB's outdoor club. This trip was supposed to be a fun climb or trip since most of the people wth us are club applicants. No one knew or remembered the place except the two of us, Jason of SOC, so we point for them. we reached the site at about 3 PM and settled for the south-west part of the area which was a bit far from the other camps. It was sort of an isolated island. The only way out was to cross the knee-deep water. No site was available at that time so we agreed to stay there for the meantime. By that time, rain was pouring almost nonstop. About 11:00 PM we were inside our tents, it was still raining when we heard panic shouts and calls from the other side. We went out and saw that the knee deep waters turned into howling rapids and was threatening to wash out our camp. Camp Senior Eric, one of the founders of the club told us to pack up and take only what's important. He directed us upward and we bushwhacked our way up avoid the the waters. We ascended about ten feet and found a small clearing. We waited there for about two hours drenched in rain hoping that the waters will subside. Fortunately, the waters did go down, The camp was still there and most importantly the people were safe. We headed down and agreed to watch the waters all night by twos. Seniors also worked out an evacuation plan if ever the water rise again. It never did. About 6:30 AM, light broke out and it was very beautiful. We still managed to enjoy the trip, look into views and admire nature at it's calm. It was scary but a learning experience for all of us. Others may never come back. For me, this is our Mother, teaching us. 1998 July 25-26
