The Third Conference on the Protected Areas of East Asia
"Community Involvement in-and-around the Protected Areas in East
Asia"
Seoul, Korea, 7-11 September 1999
The Third Conference on the Protected Areas of East Asia (IUCN/WCPA-EA-3)
will be held in the Pukan-san National Park, Seoul from the 7-11
September 1999. The conference has been organised by the IUCN/WCPA East
Asia Steering Committee, led by Professor Bo-Myeong Woo and is
co-sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Korea and Yuhan-Kimberly.
The official language for the conference will be English with translation
into Korean.
Agenda themes include:
- Plenary Session: focusing on the main issues and solutions in each
country/territory of the region;
- Session 1: general management issues, issues and conflict solutions,
transboundary protected areas, and sustainable financing in protected areas
- Session 2: conservation of biodiversity & ecosystems, and wildlife
conservation and trade
- Session 3: marine and wetlands, mountain protected areas, nature
reserves, restoration of protected areas, and World Heritage.
- Session 4: networking, cooperation with NGOs, training and capacity
building, and ecotourism
