$250 to $1000 REWARD !

 

The National Speleological Society will pay a reward of at least $250 and up to $1000 to anyone for information that leads to the conviction of a person or persons for: 

  1. Cave Vandalism,
  2. Violation of the cave protection laws of any state in the United States,
  3. Violation of the Federal Cave Resources Protection Act,
  4. Harming animals in and about caves that are protected by federal or state laws,
  5. Destroying or damaging cave gates or other barriers designed to protect caves.

 

CAVE LAWS

Federal law protects all federally owned caves and many cave-adapted animals. Caves are protected by law in most states; therefore it is illegal to: 

Write or mark on cave walls. Litter or dump spent carbide. Break or remove mineral formations. Tamper with or damage cave gates. Disturb bats or other living organisms. Remove or disturb historic or prehistoric artifacts or bones.

 

HOW TO COLLECT A REWARD 

The reward applicant is required to provide information that the conviction occurred and to provide such other supporting information as is reasonably available. The reward request must be made within three months of the conviction. REWARD AUTHORITY 

Rewards of more than $250 are given to recipients whose efforts have made a significant contribution to furthering the purpose of this reward. The amount of the reward is determined at the sole discretion of the Cave Vandalism Deterrence Commission of the National Speleological Society. The commission has the sole discretion to determine if the criteria of this offering has been met.

 

TERMINATION OF REWARD 

All previous rewards offered by the National Speleological Society and the conditions for compliance are hereby revoked. This offer is effective 1 June 1990, and shall continue to be in effect through 31 May 1999. After 31 May 1999, information as to whether or not this offer continues in effect may be obtained through the National Speleological Society. This reward notice remains the property of the National Speleological Society.
