ALASKA
When the signs say Bear Danger, their not kidding!
Alaska: The final frontier.
On August 6th, 1999 a friend and I boarded a plane
bound for a once in a life time adventure.
Backpacking in Alaska
Here are some pictures my friend Scott and I took
during our trip.

Strolling next to a creek in Denali National Park Scott
makes a Grizzly discovery. Then a few days later we ran into the
culprit.

We saw several Caribou and Moose during our trip. Be
sure to keep your distance, they will trample you if they feel
the slight bit crowded.

We joined up with some rookie hikers who were slightly
nervous. We took them under our wing and had a great time along
the top of the Alaskan Mountain Range. They carried a little to
much weight, a common problem with first time backpackers but
they were all troopers and in good shape.

(Upper Left) Day one was supposed to be a casual stroll
along the Teklanika River in section 28. Unfortunately things
don't always turn out the way you planned. (Upper Right) In mid
July most of Alaska enjoys about 5-6 hours of semi darkness. This
sunset was at 11:00PM and we had just finished dinner.
Scott and I signed up for a little class 4 rapids after
our backpacking excursion. This water was part of a glacier only
16 hrs prior. (BURR)
Here's a picture of Scott looking like one of the Dull
Rams we kept running into.

Pictures can't do justice to the incredible blue colors
radiating from the glacier ice. This ice is so dense that it's
considered rock, and yes there are such creatures as ice worms.
Ice worms are tiny worms that live on the glacier by feeding on
the dirt and minerals mixed into the ice.
The Alaskan rail road had a significant roll in the
development and population of Alaska. This shot was taken near
Resurrection Bay.
