At one time, the Morris Canal ran right through the center of Dover NJ. The picture at right shows a small section of the canal in Boonton. There is nothing left of the canal in Dover. The Canal entered Dover near Princeton Avenue, ran through Town roughly parellel to Blackwell Street, exiting near where the Lakeland Bus Terminal now stands. The park in Dover across from the library was once a boat basin on the canal. The illustration below is from an old postcard. |
