Sailing Outpost

PROGRAM: A live-aboard experience on a "big boat", lasting 4 days and 3 nights(weather permitting). Cruises will begin day 1 at 1:00 PM and conclude on Day 4 at 11:00 AM. The Cruise will be on the 4th largest lake in Wisconsin. Cruises will be concurrent with summer camp operations. Fresh provisions will be picked up daily from the camp. While not a merit badge, the skills learned will relate to the badge. Sailing skills include: hydrological map-reading, navigating by map and compass, plotting a course, using a range, dead-reckoning, marlin-spike seamanship, star gazing and identification, wind, weather, and currents. Other skills/activities include fishing, cooking, sailing. A closing dinner is planned at Port O' Call and a reflection time.

The vessel used is a 26' sailboat named Wind Dancer

CREW REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age 13 years, and their adult crew leader, minimum age 21 years. Maximum number in a crew is five (5) persons plus the staff captain And all must be able to pass a standard camp swim test.

PARTICIPANT COST: $550 per crew of up to five (5) persons, with a minimum of three (3). There is an additional charge of $40 per scout to remain in camp until Saturday if the home troop is in camp, or if with a provisional troop.

RESERVATION: Use a Camp Castle Rock campsite reservation form and participant list. use separate form if planning for troop to attend summer camp. The reservation must be followed in 45 days with a deposit of $275. The deposit is not refundable, unless a replacement crew is found to assume the cruise.
