AUGUST 10:Flames sign both Andrew Cassles and Michael Nylander to one year contracts.Cassles should have a much better year now he is comfortable in Calgary.
AUGUST 8:TABBY IS GONE!!...finally....the flames dump the bonehead goalie and the two young goalies get the chance to play.Maybe we will win a few now that Tabby won't be there to give away a goal every two games or so.
JULY 22:Cory Stillman, one of the Flames only stars last season was re-signed today to a 3 year contract. Good move AL!
JULY 21:The Flames aquire Phil Lousey, oopps HOUSLEY from the Washington Capitals on waivers. What a stupid thing to do! He is now the the highest paid player on the Flames roster. Do they honestly think he is worth US$2.75 million a year? Do they think he will do more than Fleury did for US$2.3 million last year? I've agreed 100% on all the recent trades and signings, but not this one! WASTE of money!!!! For an extra couple hundred thousand they could have got Lummé.
JULY 14:Young Gun Aaron Gavey traded to Dallas for veteren, Calgarian native, Bobby Bassen. Bassen adds much needed leadership to the young flames.
JULY 9: Flames let Roloie go to the Sabres, probably a good thing for both teams.
JULY 7: Flames sign yet another set of youngsters(how many do we need?!)Defenceman Mickey Elick,and Forward Joel Irving.
JULY 2: Flames trade forward Ladislav Kohn to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Defenceman David Cooper.
JUNE 26: Rico Fata chosen as Flames number 1 pick in the NHL entry draft.
JUNE 25th: Joel Bouchard taken by Nashville in the expansion draft, along with Jim Dowd.
JUNE 17th: Flames trade Left winger German Titov and winger Todd Hlushko to Pittsburgh for Goalie Ken Wregget and big guy Dave Roche.
JUNE 15th: Flames sign Valeri Bure to a three year deal.

Housley.....enough said.

Well I was one of those doubters when I heard the news Housley was signed, and you know what, I was wrong, dead wrong. Ive come to like Housley. Sure he lets down on defence a little sometimes, but he more than makes up for it with his playmaking. He is a great point man, something which Calgary lacked last year, he passes well,and shoots from the point, also something which Calgary didn't do nearly enogh of last year. Its funny how he is playing really well for the flames and not much is being said about him by the media, yet if he sucked it would be all over the news. I'd say Im a Housley fan.

The June 17th deal between Pittsburgh and Calgary:

Who won the deal? Its remains to be seen. A good deal for both clubs, in that the flames get rid of TITOV who did not have the heart to play for the flames anymore, and pick up an Ok, but old goal-tender to coach the young guys waiting in the wings. Wregget will replace retard Tabby. Tabby should have never come back to Calgary. What a wasted year for the flames having him around. Who will they have to back up the aging Wregget?...Moss?....He has played only a handful of NHL games and did OK, but that just don't cut it in the NHL, nor for the fans. It's a crying shame that they have let Rollie go to the Sabres. I mean hey, the Sabres know a good goalie when they see one right?! Even Wregget might struggle with a young defence in front of him. Todd Hlushko is gone, BIG DEAL.....but we get Dave Roche....don't know too much about him, but he does add much needed size to the team. If only the crash and bash guys played smart hockey! I HATE guys who give away stupid mindless penalties and put their team under pressure. (Like DINGMAN) The Flames Im afraid do this too much. You only need to look at Detroit, they win the cup because of great SMART hockey players who DO NOT give the opposing team many chances to score. Smart hockey is what the Flames need. Will Roche provided this with a little offence? We shall see......

June 15th,The Bure Signing:

Good move by the Flames....I love the guy, he is quick and plays smart. Many people compare him to older brother PAVEL, but thats just not fair. In his own right, VALERI could be a star. Only one thing could stop him-Durability. He gets in and has a go, and doesn't mind taking the hit, but he does seem to hurt easily. All he needs is a chance to show what he can do. Montreal did not give him the chance, but Calgary will. He is a 1st-2nd line player, and works well with both Fleury and Nylander. When I first saw him play at the Saddledome, he got a Hat-rick and just looked unbeatable, something which HOGLAND was not. Look for Bure to be around for awhile.

THEO FLEURY----Champion, guts, leadership, skill, only thing lacking is size....but hey, has it ever been needed??!! He plays like he is 7 feet tall!

VALERI BURE----Talented young player, lots of speed, could be breakout year 99'

DERRICK MORRIS----The most talented young defenceman on the team, plays smart, has a great blue line shot too! (June 25th, named in all rookie team)

JAROME IGINLA----Is a very talented player, just needs to have a bit more of a go, shows flashes of brilliance, will develop well along with the rest of the young players.

So You Are A Big Hockey Fan EH!


Well Im here to tell you you ain't, unless you have EA SPORTS most excellent Hockey game NHL 2000' for the PC. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven after playing it for the first time! Apart from the amazing graphics and stunning pre-game scenerios,it actually plays rather smoothly. The part that grabbed my attention were the real player faces, and when you get a penalty. The goalie animations are spot on, and they have even put in the long awaited water bottle on the net!!! Love roofing it and seeing that bottle fly!
The best tip I can give for scoring a goal is never underestimate the power of going around the back of the net, coming out, faking, then going backhand on the far side, give it a try! I give this game a whopping 9 out of 10, only a nine cause the draft section needs to be improved,along with accending and declining player skills over the years, something like Madden 2000 would be great!

Of course you all drink down some suds while watching the games don't you?....It certainly helps! Whether your team is winning or losing!

New poll every week or so.This weeks poll is about whether or not YOU think the Flames should sign Theoren Fleury for $US5-6 Million a year, or trade him and hope to get something just as good. I personally think the Flames should sign him. He is the leader of the team, and the most popular player from the fans perspective in the flames organization. If they trade him, there would be a big hole to fill. Would a number 2 pick overall and a couple of average Joe's fill that? Maybe a few years from now....but why are the flames continually planning for the future? NOW guys...now is the future. What happens when Iginla, Bure, Morris and a few of the other younger players get to be worth $4 million a season?? Trade them like Fleury???And plan for the future? What a joke that would be. Sign the guy, give the younger players a veteran to look up to.
