WALK A CROOKED SMILE
Copyright © 1966 Les Warren & Jeff Linder
My cat mind climbs remembered moons
Winding wombstriken through blue rooms
Where calendars of cooling time
Tell only that you are not mine.
And I no more your wild-eyed darling
Swinging from your roof-beam high
No more your hell nor your salvation
You made me up, do you know why?
When I came down, my red wrists waving
Good-bye to your scissored skirt
I prayed you'd know what you were saving
I only knew how much I hurt.
And now I sigh but cautious rhyme
I'm going daylight straight this time
However, I reserve the right
To walk my crooked smile by night.
