Jeans Day, the perennial and popular Children's Hospital fundraiser, kicks off its eighth year on a new date. With the increase of casual - Fridays in the workplace, Jeans Day has been moved to Thursday, May 7, 1998.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of British Columbians pay $5 for a Jeans Day button, "allowing" them to sport their favorite denims to work. If tradition continues, the event will raise close to $600,000 for the hospital. "People all across B.C. really look forward to Jeans Day", says Tina Swinton, Volunteer Chair of Jeans Day. "To keep it popular, we wanted to reflect workplace trends in the '90's, so we moved it to Thursday, keeping in mind the four-day work weeks and casual Fridays."
Buying a $5 Jeans Day button makes an incredible contribution to the support we can provide to the hospital, 100 percent of the funds raised go directly to equipment purchases, research and programs needed by Children's Hospital, which sees more than 130,000 patient visits a year from Children all over B.C.
