This Weeks Adventure!!
This weeks temp was a high of 30. So, I decided to stay at home and tie a few
flies for the upcoming trout season. I tied about 10 or so and proceeded to take a few
pics for you guys to see. It's a good thing that my fly tying is better than my picture taking.
:) Any way I don't have any pics for you but here are some recipes for my favorites.
Rubber Bandit:
hook: 8-16 2x long nymp hook
thread: brown or black
body: rubber band
colar: pheasant tail fibers
I first saw this fly tied on "The Fishing Hole". Although I can't remember what they named the
fly this one suited me.. I varied the original by adding the pheasant tail fibers to immitate
legs. This fly immitates caddis fly larve commonly found in southern streams.. commonly refered
to as "Stick Bait"..
Royal Wulff:
hook: 8-14 1x fine
thread: black or brown
tail: natural brown bucktail
body: peacock herl with red floss center
hackle: brown
wing: white calf tail
This pattern comes from Lee Wulff. It is my favorite all around fly. If I'm not doing good, I
tie this pattern on and my luck usually changes..
Wolly Worm:
hook: 6-12 2x long nymp hook
thread: black
tail: red wool or hackle fibers
body: chenille (black, brown, yellow, red, and green)
hackle: grizzle palmered sloping forward
This fly catches anything from trout to bream to bass. As you can see the colors are
varied and I suggest you carry one of each in your box. You can even use other color
combinations such as, brown, black, brown, or black, brown, black to immitate natural
woollys...
Sorry again for the pics. I'll try to get a better camera for close-ups. If you'd
like to see a page dedicated to fly tying, let me know.. Just drop me a line.
