The Three Oaks Visit!!!

This week we are going looking for some "color". The color yellow that is.. I've visited this place on several occasions panning for gold and have never been skunked. The same is true on this visit. I found several specks of flour gold while panning in the small creek that flows through this area. This opening is one of the many mines that tunnel through this hillside.

This is another hydrolic mine, simular to the one in Last Weeks Adventure It's hard to see, but the back of this mine is about 40 feet straight up.

Sorry I don't have any pictures of the gold I found to show you. I ran out of film taking pictures of all the other neat things in this area. Here, take a look.

Heres another open mine shaft. I can see where this one has been caving in way in the distance.

This one has a newly dug trench in front of it, in an attempt to drain it. There are some very brave people in this world.

Watch you're step!! Next time I visit, I think I'll sample the bottom of this hole. Some miner was very determined in this attempt..

This is one of the old stamp mills. Most of the gold in this area was imbedded in stone. The stone was ran on a conveyer through this mill which pounded the stone into powder. The gold was then panned out of this.

Well, that about does it for this weeks adventure. If you live in an area where gold might be found, give prospecting a try. But watch out for that gold bug. If you ever get bit you will develope gold fever..for which I personally have found no cure.. If you're curious about prospecting but know nothing about it, check out GPAA(Gold Prospecting Association of America). They can give you all the info you need to get started..

Check back next week for another "Georgian Adventure".. till then, go outside, its a great place to be...
