This was our first bare boat charter and also our first experience with ocean sailing. The cruise was a one way trip, with Florida Yacht Charters, from Miami to Key West. This was a very leisurely downwind sail. In fact we only had to tack two times on the entire trip. Our itinerary was planned so that we had equal time on the hook and in marinas. Unfortunately we did not keep a detailed log of the cruise but I have provided a link to a short photo log.
Our route took us down Biscayne Bay to Pumpkin Key where we anchored for the evening. The next morning we took the cut through Angelfish Creek to the Hawk Channel. Once in the Hawk Channel, mother nature provided us with great sailing. We had hoped to do some snorkeling, however the seas were a little too strong.
After two nights on the hook we made a stop at "Holiday Isle Marina" on Windley Key. This stop provided us with some great entertainment and a chance to stretch our legs. This break was followed by two days on the hook. In fact we celebrated New Year's Eve anchored near Ram Rod Key. On New Year's Day we made our final run to Key West. Key West provided us with plenty of entertainment, great food, and a great end to our first salt water adventure.
