RECIPE
FOR POWER
CHUNKS!
INGREDIENTS:
-
banana chips
-
granola (your choice)
-
lots of chocolate pieces (without the
hard candy coating)
-
peanut butter pieces
-
normal trail mix stuff
-
anything else you like in your gorp
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients
together in whatever proportions you prefer, making sure there are plenty
of chocolate pieces. Again, make sure the chocolate isn't encased
in a hard coating -- M&M's won't work. Put the combined mix into
a ziplock bag and place in your backpack, pretending like it is just a
standard bag of trail mix. Choose a hike that has a lot of exposure
to the sun on a warm day, for optimum results. With power chunk mix
in its appropriate place in your pack, proceed hiking for a few hours,
avoiding shady routes whenever possible. When you reach your destination
and begin to set up camp, be sure to place your pack in the sun, or better
yet, remove power chunk mix from your pack and place it on a sunny rock.
Do not disturb the mix before morning. Preferably you have chosen
a high elevation hike where the nights get rather cool. If the weather
cooperates and the temperatures drop nicely, upon waking, carefully open
the bag and enjoy! If all goes well, they will have set up nice and
chunky overnight. Power Chunks are best enjoyed with a nice glass
of milk, so don't forget the powdered mix. Just be sure to eat 'em
before the day gets warm again, or you will have to wait until the next
morning (or until you get home to your fridge) to enjoy the Power Chunks
again.
I actually plan on trying this again next time I
go packing. It was surprisingly a very tasty accident. If anyone
else tries it (on purpose, or accidently), send
me a note about your experiences and I'll put it up here.
