MAKE YOUR POSITION KNOWN
TO OTHER HUNTERS
Display fluorescent orange when moving through the
woods to alert other hunters of your presence.
NEVER STALK A TURKEY OR
TURKEY SOUND
Movement or sounds you think are a turkey may be another
hunter. Be patient. Let the bird come to you.
ASSUME EVERY NOISE AND
MOVEMENT IS ANOTHER HUNTER
If there's any doubt----Don't Shoot
!!!!!
PROTECT YOUR BACK
Select a large tree, rock or other natural
barrier while setting up or calling. Hunt in the open woods where you will be able to
visually see another approaching hunter.
SHOUT "STOP" TO ALERT
APPROACHING HUNTERS
Never move, wave or make turkey sounds to
alert hunters of your position.
ELIMINATE RED, WHITE AND BLUE FROM
YOUR CLOTHING
These colors are found on the head and neck of mature
gobblers.
PRESELECT A ZONE OF FIRE
Shoot at a turkey only in
the predetermined zone, and only when you're certain it's safe.
CHOOSE SAFE
AND ETHICAL HUNTING COMPANIONS
Know where they are at all
times. Hunt defensively and be on alert for those who don't.
PRACTICE
COURTESY AND SELF CONTROL
At all times observe all written and
unwritten rules of safe hunting. Good hunting habits prevent accidents.
KEEP
THE SAFETY ON UNTIL THE INSTANT YOU SHOOT
This is not
practiced much with turkey hunters, because most guys turn thier safety off when the bird is
coming in, allot of times the bird will leave before a shot presents itself, and one can never
be too careful. I myself would like to see more hunters practice safety.
HOLD
ONTO THAT GUN
Never stand a gun against a tree or vehicle. Place it on a
flat surface---unloaded. Dogs have been known to discharge standing
firearms.
DON'T DRINK BEFORE OR WHILE HUNTING
It is
unlawful to hunt while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Alcohol and gun powder
don't mix. While hunting this explosive combination is dangerous to yourself and others
around you.
IT IS MY INTENT TO KEEP THE SPORT SAFE FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN, SO THEY MAY HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES TO CHASE THIS GREAT BIRD THROUGH THE WOODS AS I HAVE.
