Debbie is the newest pilot of the Adams Family having gained her pilot's license on the 21st of December 1999. She was born and Raised in Pennsylvania. She attended Edinboro University and graduated as an Art Teacher. Mother nature urged her to leave Pennsylvania when her water-bed froze, so in 1977 she packed up and went to the sunny climes of Florida. She worked at Walt Disney world for the next two years before embarking on an almost 20 year career in the jewelry industry. It was in Florida that she got her first balloon ride. It was love at first flight! |
Debbie and her husband Rick moved to New Mexico and took up residence in Rio Rancho two weeks before the 1993 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and as she recalls "I knew we'd gone to heaven. She began her own business called "Painted Walls", a faux finishing, decorative and mural painting business. With the press of business, the Fowlers didn't get back into ballooning until 1997 when they started crewing for the Jamesons in Los Lunas. In 1998 they bought the sixteenth Adams Angel in the Albuquerque area and named her Painted Angel. |
Debbie took her lessons from Gay Jensen James with much teaching and coaching from other Adams pilots, including Debra and Jamie Jameson, Bob Woodall and Jeff Stocker. She was initiated into the ranks of Adams pilots along with Marlin Milner in a ceremony January 2, 2000 at Marlin's house. Both emerged from the celebration looking like large walking, talking ice cream sundaes complete with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, nuts and even cherries. Both were compelled to share a fully clothed shower to return to the ranks of the recognizable. |
Debbie is a member of the Valencia Flying and retrieval Society (VFRS), the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension association (AAAA) and the Balloon Federation of America (BFA). |
