Toronto's Water Filter
|
The Oak Ridges Moraine is a ridge of land just north of Lake Ontario.
It runs from the Trent River in the east to the Niagara Escarpment
in the west. It called an interlobate moraine because it was formed from
sand and gravel deposited between two melting lobes of
glacial ice. This
particular moraine acts as a huge filter which strains the groundwater sources
of the major watersheds in the greater Toronto area. It also incorporates
most of the largest wooded areas in this region.
