upon himself to meet with the Santa Rosa City supervisors on 11/20/1996.
The city board voted approval to expand the courts up to $7,000. Great Job
John -- Very much appreciated.

Donation to Club:

Ed Loranger mentioned possible donations to our clua by the DeMeo Foundation,
presented by Gail Sluys at our last meeting. Ed decided to evaluate what our
current status is on Junior programs, what activities are we promoting, and
kind of membership goals we've got for a Junior League. All these things cost
money and we need to evaluate such to make a presentation to the DeMeo Found-
ation. Ed has been in contact with David Sullivan, through Internet, who has
some ideas on Junior programs and he will get back to Ed. Ed has been very
active with Internet in regards to the horseshoe club. He made a suggestion to
form a committee to look into the details regarding the Juniors. Casey said
the NCHPA has an abundance of information concerning the Juniors.

Delegates Report:
Gail Sluys represented our club at the Stockton meeting. She had a copy of the
minutes and had a few things that needed to be brought to the attention of our
club. Northern Calif. elected two new members to the HALL OF FAME this year
who are Glenn Jamieson, and Casey Sluys. there was much discussion on the
basis of prize money for the State Tournament. It was decided to form a comm-
ittee to formulate the State prize fund. The committee will make suggestions by
May and send them to the clubs for fine tuning, then to the executive committee
who will make a decision by July 1, 1997.

Two people attempted to raise the scorekeeper fee from 25 to 50 cents per
game, but it was denied both times.

Vern Gosney was to change standing rule #12 to read minimum tournament prize
shall be at least double the entry fee for 1st place and at least equal to ent-
ry fee for 2nd place, which passed.

Genevieve Lavett made a motion that all NCHPA memberw to win a world division
championship be inducted into the HALL of Fame automatically. That motion
passed. Genevieve would really appreciate getting some more information for
the Newsletter.

The World Tournament for 1997 will be held in Kitchner, Canada, July 14 through
July 28th.

George Greeott asked about Earl Winston. Casey said Earl is doing great after
so many injuries.

Jerry Smith explained that the Yolo county Parks board has approved the build-
ing of the Hall of Fame. Genevieve moved that the NCHPA pay the building fees
for the Hall of Fame after approval of the executive board. Motion Carried.

We have a new club in Pollack Pines, which was accepted into Northers. Gail
will sanction the courts.

The next State Championship Tournament will be held in Yolo. the Senior tourn-
ament will be in Vallejo. The Team Tourny will be held again in Stockton.
Also, Stockton will host the 'Dinner-Dance' in 1997.

Election of officers was held. Casey was re-elected President of Northers.
Jerry Foss was elected 2nd VP, Sharon Paddock was re-elected 4th VP, and
Cathy Loucks, 5the VP. Jerry Smith is the new Statistician for Northern.

Junior Guidelines:
The Junior committee consisted of Charlie E. Dubs, Bill fulwider and Earl
Smith. They came up with three proposals:

1st Proposal:
The juniors will be paid awards on 1st and 2nd place for only our Junior
members in the Sonoma County horseshoe tournaments. the money will be held in
a special account until the date of their 18th birthday. At that time they
will be asked to accept/decline the set amount. The Juniors must report, in
writing, once a year, the last Sonoma County tournament of the year and the
1st Sonoma County tournament of the following year, their current/new address
etc in order to keep records in order. If that is not done, the money shal
be returned to the current club account. At a Sonoma County tournament a
receipt will be issued for 1st or 2nd place, signed by the statistician and
one club officer and the Junior member. One copy will be turned over to the
secretary and one copy retained by the Junior. The club secretary shall dep-
osit the set amount into the junior fund.

2nd Proposal:
The Junior travel fund only for SOCO Juniors and only for SOCO tournam-
ents. All Juniors monetary winnings shall be part of the 'Junior Travel Fund'
for the use of aiding travel of the Junior members to the State or World tour-
nament.a that money shall be divided between Junior members who will be going
to the above named tournaments. This amount should be baid to the parents
of that Junior to help with travel expenses.

3rd Proposal:
Due to the fact that this is an amateur status of the Juniors, if we do
this we can actually mess up their amateur standings and between now and the
time they are 18, how they know if they want to continue on with sports as
amateurs, and if we mess them up by under age 18, they may not be able to
continue on with amateur sports. There are three different possibilities and
the club can decide what they want to do.

this has been tabled pending the report bo the committee to be formed.

Eldon Bryhan introduced his friend Dennis Rehe as a new member. He mentioned
hearing from Floyd Edwards, a former member of our club.

Ed Loranger thanked Dianne shortridge for picking up the cookies, paid for with
our treasury money, and Bob Fletcher for the delicious mint cookies.

Ed Loranger asked how many members have contact with the media, TV and news-
paper. he felt the members that have contact with the media could work togeth-
er as a group or contact each other by phone to take a direct approach to
promoting the club. the following members have had contact with the media:
Casey Sluys, Earl Smith, Darryl Beardall, russ Peterich and Ray Parnay, who
also writes articles for the Newsletter. casey offered to put the notice
back into the rec. notes for Thursday's Press Democrat, which includes the
tournament dates. The PD sports desk number is 526-8500, that's only for
results, or Call Doug Silvera, 526-5056 (tv50). A big thanks goes out to each
member helping out with the media, TV and newspaper.

Volunteers:
Ed would like to have a group formed for Junior activities. Maybe have a Jun-
ior activities leader that would set up special events and look at the funds
that might be obligated for Juniors and recruiting and develop a target for
membership of Juniors. We need to set some membership goals recruiting pro-
cesses formed and additional activities for Juniors to promote Junior act-
ivities within our league.

Juniors, chris and Dale Loranger and Jessee Englert volunteered plus Gail
sluys and charlie Nader. charlie will talk to Russ Peterich about being lead-
er of the Junior activities group. Ed will put together a summary of some of
the things he researched and give that to the Junior committee to get it
started.

Gail Sluys spoke about the National Sanction League. National has a club
league program. All we do is have the members sign up for this. They provide
patches, keep stats, ricordsare kept of averages, you get a member patch and
many other things. It is for Juniors and adults and doesn't cost anything. We
just have to sign up for it. Casey ssaid we could very easily participate in
the National Sanction League because we had 152 sanctioned tournaments.

Rob Munderloh made a motion to pay our club statistician, seconded by Bob
Fletcher. The motion was defeated.

Ed Loranger mentioned how much fun Tuesday night league has been and
complimented John Origer for the tremendous job he has done. Ed volunteered
to run the Tuesday league, assisted by Roger McKeay, this year. Eldon Bryhan
said Tuesday nights should also be used for practice and learning how to turn
courts and keep them in good condition. Casey volunteered to set up a judg-
ing clinic. If every member pitches in we can spend a few moments on Tues.
night, before a tournament, preparing the courts.

Compliments went out to Greg Ellisen for building new covers and Casey, Sally
and Kend Woolery for getting supplies and painting the covers.

Steve shortridge, Ed Loranger, Roger McKeay, Don Smalley, Carlie E. Dubs and
Casey Sluys volunteered to repair the fould lines at the courts. Casey will
check with Joe summers about resealing the courts before doing the foul lines.

Rob Munderloh motioned the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Gail Sluys.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
