Casey Sluys Directs The Parks & Recreation Open------------------------------------------------------------------------Doyle Park, Aug. 9, 1997 Santa Rosa, CA 52 pitchers (3 Morning/4 Afternoon group)
Next Tournament:Sonoma County Open. 8/24/1997 Reverse Start; C-U-There! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From the President, Ed Loranger: This was a trophy tournament, sponsored by the Santa Rosa Parks and Recreation Department. Many thanks go to them for sponsoring the trophys. Unfortunately, due to an ordering glitch, winners in the 1st/2nd place categories who should have received their trophies must wait about 2 weeks for delivery. I won one of these P&R trophies in 1995 and it is well worth the wait. Very high quality. This was also the chosen date for our annual Bar-b-Que! Extreme thanks go to all members. The food was excellent! A very special thanks to Dianne Shortridge who spent a great deal of time organizing all of the dishes and becoming a regular at Costco! For those of you who missed the cookout and had to leave, we had Charlie Nader and Ben Yost (Vallejo) under fire at the coals. What a pair! Burgers and Dogs were the fare chosen. There were excellent salads and cakes. Casey's hot bean dish was nearly gone -- All 12 quarts, by the end of the day. Good stuff Casey! Also we had some killer baked beans. There was some suffering to be heard the next day -- Hee Hee! Also, due to chaos of holding such a mega-event, we inadvertently scheduled a 6 person group at 40 shoes. Should have been 50 shoes for a 250 shoe day. Sorry folks, we'll get it right next time. Maybe the 'Chet Carter 400' next year on race day! We had excellent attendance (52) just short of our maximum of 56 the 12 pits can hold. The temperature was cool, about 68 Degrees It was nice to have many clubs represented at our little local tournament. The club thanks all pitchers who came to come visit us and we hope to return the favor soon. I want to thank Casey Sluys for volunteering to run the tourny, Casey's experience was obvious. He made it look easy. Thank you Casey! -Ed Loranger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Activities by Tournament Director, Casey Sluys:
