Ray Parnay Directs The Sonoma County Open

Doyle Park, Aug. 24, 1997 Santa Rosa, CA 43 pitchers (4 Morning/2 Afternoon group)
Next Tournament:Hall Of Fame Open. 9/21/1997; C-U-There! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From the President, Ed Loranger: This was a reverse order start and I didn't expect a huge turnout. Also, the weather forecast was for rain in the afternoon. They were wrong! A beautiful day to pitch. The pits however, were a bit damp from the Saturday Night rain we had. Had to do some scram- bling but finally got everything tournament read before the 10:AM start. We had a heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Kevin Smith opened up some pits on Wednesday and Thursday. Using a can to scoop with, Kevin eliminated much of the accumulated water. He also had the presence of mind to open up the pits to airdry. After a reminder late Thursday night from Darrell Bierkamp, I called about 18 of our Tuesday night regulars. Pretty much a losing proposition -- really too late for everyone to squeeze out of obligations. (Darn unexpected rain). But! Was able to get Bill Fullwider, Dan Estabrook, and myself to commit. All told, we got every pit up to par before leaving. Also had a nice doubles match with Don Smalley who timed his arrival perfectly! :) Anyway, we had a nice turn out and Ray did an excellent job keeping everyone in line! Thanks Ray. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Activities by Tournament Director, Ray Parnay:
