Canoeing
for a Cure
It is estimated that 16 million
Americans have diabetes. The American
Diabetes Association is the leading national organization that is
funding research and education as well as advocating the rights of
those
affected by diabetes. The ADA mission is quite straightforward: to
prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of people affected
by
diabetes. You may not realize it, but diabetes costs taxpayers and
businesses over $98 billion each year in healthcare cost!
I'm one of the many faces of diabetes. I'm a 33-year-old whose lived
with Type I diabetes for over 24 years. I am also an avid long distance
canoe racer. On December 17th, 18th, and 19th of this year, I will
be
canoeing the entire length of the Bayou Teche in southwestern Louisiana
- 123 miles from Port Barre to Morgan City - with the goal of raising
$3000 for the American Diabetes Association!
On behalf of the American Diabetes Association and 16 million diabetics,
I ask your support for my endeavor and the cause. Any donation would
be
greatly appreciated; please also share this with any of your peers,
friends, family, business associates or media.
Consider the following:
· 123 miles @ 5 cents per mile
would give the ADA $6.15
· 123 miles @ 25 cents per mile
would give the ADA $30.75
· 123 miles @ 1 dollar per mile
would give the ADA $123.00
· 123 miles @ 5 dollars per mile
would give the ADA $615.00
· … or any other tax-deductible contribution to help us reach
$3000 by
December 19th!
I would be happy to display posters or stickers on my canoe and support
van as well as at the planned "stopping points" where I will meet the
media, talk to community groups and officials, and collect donations
from supporters.
Thank you so much for your consideration and support. Helping to find
a
cure is a easy as 1-2-3; 123 miles that is!! Please support this
challenge. Send your donations, payable to
the American Diabetes
Association, to Canoeing for a
