2001-NWMA Championships

Unlike previous years, the 2001 championship was held as a one day event, each heat being a three hour match. Bluebird skies, light winds and temperatures reaching into the mid to upper 70's made for a comfortable day of fishing, but the fish didn't want to cooperate! Heat 1 was held on the river which was low, and the current was fast, but a slow fast so to speak. Anglers closer to the dam(B section) did slightly better on the carp, but it was still slow overall. In the afternoon heat(held on the canal side) the carp were active closer to the bridge and two of the three anglers(A section) brought the carps to them and pretty well kept them there. I was on peg A-6 and did have on, and lose, a carp about 15 minutes before the end of the heat. No-one to my right never had a carp on, a stretch of ten pegs. More bluegills seemed to be on the canal side, but many had to go after small shiners just to register some weight. Not exactly how you want a championship match to fish!
