Day 28: Sunday Nov. 3rd Kathmandu Went to a shop where they sold real bead gems. Some very expensive. Guy from the hotel took us there and to a shop where Pauline had her knapsack repaired. Chrissey came over and had breakfast with us at the Tayoma. Exchanged addresses. Stomach a bit upset to-day. the spicy food and the wine the night before didn't sit too well. Chrissey said she was being treated for Giardia. She had gone to Indra's village (her porter) for a few days. He was going to travel to India with her. She also was going to help him get more education. He had never been to Kathmandu before and never seen a flush toilet. We met him in the evening just outside the hotel. He did not look very comfortable. The big city intimidated him a bit. Chrissy is blond and she said the children in the village just stood around and stared at her most of the time. In the afternoon I went for another wander by myself down by the Royal Palace. Standing on a street corner a little girl in a school bus made eye contact with me and smiled and waved. Very special. Made a wrong turn and had to retrace my steps again. Very easy to get mixed up in this city. Not always street signs. Pollution on busy street was bad. Glad to get back to the hotel. Spaghetti for supper at Narayan's Restaurant next to the Potalla Guest House. To bed, pack in the morning. Had trouble getting to sleep. Back hurting. Took T3 and settled down.
