North Carolina '87
This gathering was close to home. There was a lot of local controversary about the right of
the people to camp on federal land and there was a large stake out of police on the main road.



Once you walked up the dirt road and across the bridge you left all that behind.
You could walk the 5 mi. or so up the road or catch one of the few shuttles running
and reach the camp which was spread out through several miles of woods. There was
a lot of rain and there wasn't a good source of uncontaminated water, so any fresh water
one had was like gold! You could trade for most anything you wanted with pure water.



The 4th was a nice sunny day though and a large crowd gathered in the main clearing to meditate
for World Peace and the drums came out at noon.
