RVing

We purchased our Motorhome in 1996.  It is a 1987 Southwind, 27Ft. Long with twin beds in the rear.  It has the automatic levelers and I added a two panel solar system.  The panels are of the 48 watt variety and so far I have never had a power problem. We prefer to "Boondock" or "Dry camp" in Forest Service or similar type campgrounds and stay in RV Parks only when we have to. .

People that are interested in RVing should consider subscribing to CompuServe.  They have an excellent RV Forum that is a great source of information.  A while back, the forum added a section on "Boon Docking" and I submitted a series of messages on my experiences.  The messages are included under the Boon Docking option below.

If you are planning a trip and are looking for some good websites for Campground Information, I have included a list of my favorites.  Some of the best CG information can be found on the gorp/dow site.

Individuals have asked "How much does it cost?"  The cost of RVing will vary from family to family depending on their life style and how they compute the cost.  Some RVers figure the cost per mile, or nites/days of use.  Needless to say, the more you use the RV, the more the cost per "unit" goes down.  The cost of RVing includes fixed /maintenance costs and the variable costs incurred while on a trip.

I have included a couple of tables giving some of our expenses while RVing.

If you are interested in the economics of full-timing look at Mark's Fulltime RV Adventure.

Mark is a  Systems Engineer who retired at age 41 and set out to tour the US "as long as the money holds out".  He keeps very good records of his adventures and misadventures, and what's so hard to find elsewhere, actual costs vs his projected costs.
