Shadow All Night Exercise 2006 Date to be Announced Soon............

The country's biggest all night navigation and skills exercise for young people - codename - 'Shadow'. The event is promoted and supported by Nottinghamshire County Council, Culture & Community, Youth Division.

Shadow 2005 Shadow will take place on the night of Saturday 15th October. The event will again be based at the Sherwood Forest Visitors’ Centre. What is Shadow? Shadow, open to young people aged 13 to 21, is an overnight navigation and initiative test for teams of 5 young people. It is held on an autumn night when the weather conditions can be severe. Although Shadow is run with a spirit of enjoyment for everybody, working as a team, a sense of adventure, pitting oneself against the elements and dealing with all the different incidents encountered are all vital ingredients of the overall experience. Teams need to be aware that they have to take responsibility for the safe conduct of all the team members in what can be a strenuous activity taking place in a potentially hostile environment. Shadow is now in its 31st year – an excellent achievement for an event involving up to 125 teams, mostly mixed, with a great variation in ability, motivation and mobility. The event could not run without the large numbers of volunteers many who have supported the event over many years. Co-operation between the Red Cross, Nesst, the Forestry Commission, Sherwood Forest Rangers, Voluntary Youth Organisations, individual volunteers and the County Council’s Youth Service turn this event into one of the largest and most successful events of its kind in the country. Teams can enter one of four sections for the event – Out of County, Countywide, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and County Youth Service teams. This year all participants from Nottinghamshire will be offered the opportunity to qualify for the A.S.D.A.N. Youth Activities Award. font>
