| Trip Report - Jeffrey | From the Saddle Road I made the drive up to the top of Mauna Kea.
Fortunately, I had a four wheel drive jeep because the last mile of the
drive is very steep. At the top of Mauna Kea is several observatories,
and since I had a really clear day I was able to see Maui. The top
of the mountain looking like the surface of
the moon. The picture with me in it gives an idea of this. The hike to the actually peak is about 1/4 mile off the main road. Except for the lack of oxygen, and the bitter cold wind chill, it was an easy hike. |
