| Trip Report - Matt | On Mt. Katahdin (40mph wind+). Wind chill in the 20's, temp around 63 at Roaring Brook. July 5, 2000. Other hiker was Lynn Yates. We did a loop from the Roaring Brook campground on the Helon Taylor trail up to Pamola Peak... The weather was clear but non-threatening clouds where starting to build in around the summit. Lynn and I decide to got for it across the "Knife Edge" trail, famous for it's 2000 ft drop offs on both sides. Rock climbing and a lot of holding on because of the wind. It was great! 1.1 miles to Kathadin which was socked in by this time. Back down the Saddle path to Chimney pond and then returning to Roaring Brook via the Chimney Pond trail. Around 10 miles all told. Tired but very happy. |
