Where would you like to go?

What gear to useThere are a lot of different types of rods and reels for one to use. Which one you want depends upon the factors of how you want to fish and what you will fish for. If you plan on throwing out a worm and letting it sit then a spinning rod with about 8 lb test line will do fine. If you plan to troll then you will need heavier rods, reels and line. You have the option of using both spinning or bait casting gear. Bait casting gear usually takes the heavier baits and lines like 12 lb +. The spinning gear will go with the lighter stuff. Also there are ultra light rods and reels in both forms. These are fun to use on the smaller fish. Ice rods are usually 2-3 feet in length and take really light line like 2-4 lb test. This is so that you can feel the fish and that the fish don't see the line and get scared off. Check with your local shop as to which would be best for your type of fishing in your area. I have in the past set people up with rods, reels, and tackle boxes so as to get them started in the sport. If you would like any further help feel free to email me. |
