Miño waves

Frieira-Barcela section (19 km.)

Flow
Frieira electric station regulates the flow .

• Ecologic flow: 25 m3/s
  
• If the Station is working, from 125 m3/s up to 700/800 m3/s

Best time
Summer, when the Station releases makes the water levels to be low;
between 125 and 225 m3/s, exceptionally reaching the 325.

Description
Depending on the water level, we'll find diferent playspots :

• 125 m3/s. - The famous wave forms at this levels.

  It consist on a diverse continued waves. The first one is even and open, continued by a more closed wave that breaks in the upper part.

  To reach the place, you'd better put in at the 'beach' in Arbo ( under the International bridge ) and run down 1 km. aproximately.
  It's the second rapid counting from the put in, after a notorious narrowing of the river that the first rapid forms.

  At this water level there was another beautiful playspot, a bit before the bridge, but due to the high flows that modified the river bed ( boulders in that area) dissapeared.
  Hope next high flows make it come back !

• Upper 125 m3/s. water level - it's worth to travel up to Frieira and put in below the dam. At the beggining of the first rapid, next to the right bank there is a nice playspot.

  Down in the river we'll find huge surfable waves .

  If we don't feel like paddling we can get off the river at Pousa Station. ( 4 km. )

Carasa wave
Cantabria, Carasa, Asòn river

This wave forms due to ocean tides on the Ason river, under the bridge at Carasa.

Flow The difference in height between the high and low-water takes a big part when forming the playhole. Thus, those days in a month with higher tidal coefficient (always greater than 90) , 3 hours after the high-tide, the wave shows up.

It's also stronger and might remain permanent when it rains persistenly.

Description

When the tide starts lowering, the water accumulated during the high-water at the other side of the bridge, has to make its way down through the narrow span of the bridge. In the beggining, it forms a smooth " V " followed by a small surfable wave.

The " V " starts closing and slowly makes a more playable spot, while the wave in its back desappears.

Finally, the " V " closes completely ( " U " ) and the big playhole gets formed under the bridge.
