These shots were taken a few weeks ago at a recent local grass-race a couple towns away. I took my '71 Scorpion Stinger II and my '71 Ski-Doo Olympique 399. Wow, sometimes I don't reccomend trying to run two sleds in the same class! I spent all afternoon getting in line to race, making a pass, then running back to the pits to fetch my other sled and repeat the proccess! As if that weren't enough, my friend Russell piloted THREE sleds! Not surprisingly, we had by far the oldest sleds at the entire event, the closest to us were '85s, but we still made a good showing for our self-named "vintage" class!

My '71 features a 400cc CCW engine, while my Ski-Doo has a 399cc Rotax-Bombardier engine. Both have single Tillotson carbs. My friend Russell ran a '72 Chaparral Firebird 400, a '73 Boa-Ski Mark II 292 (Kohler Axial Fan.) and a '98 Ski-Doo MXZ 670 in the 601-700 class.

We were placed in the 0-500 class with our old stuff. I took the first two wins with my two sleds, then in the second round, I had to run both of my sleds against each other! Russell ran my Ski-Doo, while I rode my Scorpion. He beat me because the 'ol Stinger fouled a plug at the line and had to limp down the track on one cylinder. I finally got my Ski-Doo beaten by a '98 Ski-Doo Formula 500.

Not too shabby at all though since I was running against sleds 27-years newer than mine! I highly reccomend grass-racing, especially with an older sled, you'll have a blast I guarantee, I did!
