Equipment Packing List
- Winter
Camping
We recommend that you pack the following
equipment, for a winter weekend outdoors.
Feel free to add other items, to suit your own
preferences and experience, but think carefully before leaving
anything out this list has been evolved over generations
of Scouts if its on this list, more than one
somebody was sorry they left it behind. Think you found something
we should have listed? Show us what it was, this weekend
& if we are all jealous of you at the end of the camp, we
will be sure to add it next year!
- One Sleeping Bag (if not rated for
15C or lower, then consider also bringing:
- A second sleeping bag (to stuff the first
one into); or
- A sleeping bag liner)
- Waterproof ground sheet (for under
sleeping bag)
- Thermarest mattress or equivalent (for
under sleeping bag)
- Thermal underwear, top + bottom (plan on
living in it)
- Balaclava (plan on sleeping in it)
- Underwear (2 pair)
- T-shirts (2)
- Socks (Wool are best, at least 2 pair,
more if you wear them in layers in your boots)
- Snowsuit (2 if weather is very wet.)
- Hats, gloves, scarves, etc. (2 or 3 sets
each)
- Pants, shirts, sweaters (2 or more each
to dress in layers + change out of clothing wet by
sweat (e.g. on hikes) or by snow (e.g. in games or play))
- Plastic bag to collect dirty (smelly)
laundry
- Tracksuit (not cotton) suitable for
outdoor sleepwear
- Flashlight, with spare batteries + spare
bulb
- Multi-tool and\or penknife (optional)
- Quiet activity(ies) (e.g. Cards, board
games, books, etc.)
- Scout Handbook
- Scout Uniform (except sash)
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Pencil, pen, paper (optional)
- Plate, bowl, mug, knife, fork, spoon, a
mesh bag to air dry them.
- Boots good for deep snow +
snowshoes
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, facecloth,
sunblock (for nose), lip balm
- Rain Gear (if weather report justifies)
- 1 liter Water Bottle (for long hikes)
- Day pack (for hiking)
- Spare glasses\glasses repair kit (if
applicable)
- Other:

PLEASE: No electronic toys, radios, CD players,
tape players, etc..
