TO BE A WOLF

I was born from dirt and erected for life as you humans were. We are brothers from a time you have so quickly forgotten. Visions prance through my head and I remember your kind long... long ... ago.

We hunted the same prey, you had fire for warmth and we were blessed with fur. Often, I preyed upon your small and weak as you did mine and we coexisted for thousands of years. Time has told the story of my kind, and we are losing the battle, you humans have determined us to be savage and visions like you claimed the Native Americans to be and you have displayed this in books.

You have promoted our demise with myths of evilness and witchery. You have pushed us to the brink, you have put us in a box dated and stamped: Canis lupus, an endangered species. We survive only because you allow it. I have spoken softly to others in the forest about you, my former brother. We see you have lost your way, you have stepped out of (though short lived) the natural cycle. Your mind is strong, however you are losing not only control but yourself. All of us, everything is in the palm of your cruel, hairless, civilized hands.

Today, I awoke to thunder that never stopped. My pack looked at me with questioning eyes and I returned there stares with confusion. We began to flee but to no avail, the thunder radiated from the giant bird filled with your kind toting sunglasses and guns. My pack split, my body went numb after 70 miles of flight, and I faded to black. I awoke, trapped, gagged, tied, drugged, scared, and alone.

Smells I have never experienced burned and poisoned my nose. I was confused. Noises thundered through my head and I wished that I was dead. I ate dead rats, lifeless they were tossed to me like charity. I was repulsed however, I ate. I sensed another member of my pack nearby, I felt there heart beat in the wind, I sensed there pain and loss of freedom. The moon rose 20 times until the day I saw one of my pack members, the day of our freedom. It was omega the 'scapegoat' the keeper of pups.

We were transported to a river that smelled of death, you opened the door to our confined cell and I fled. Omega could not keep up, I ran for 3 days straight traveling on scented winds I have never known. Everything is different hear the birds, the light, the sound of rain. Why have you done this I will never know, I howl alone and no one responds, even the meat tastes different: LAZY.

I will never stop searching for my past . There is thunder in my blood and the eternal flame of life burns deep within my soul.

I like you are a star baby, we came from dirt and were erected for life to coexist and respect the diversity of every brother.

I am an integral part of everything! Without me the web unravels!!
