However, some units doing garrison duty were companies of Battalions who saw combat and therefore are not asterisked.(ie; The 65th Mount Royal Rifles garrisoned 6 posts including Fort Normandeau between Calgary and Edmonton and also fought at Frenchman's Butte and in the Pursuit of Big Bear.)

Both these units fought at The battle of Duck Lake which started the Hostilities.
