West Coast Trail,page 4: |
||||||
This is one of my favorite photos of the whole trail. It's a shot of the coast line looking North from a view point.It's one of the few places where you actually get more than a few feet above sea level. The West Coast trail is a very beautiful place to hike regardless of the weather. Despite it's beauty it's a very dangerous place. Between the surge channels, tides, ladders and creek crossings there is enough to worry about, but add to that all the many people who use the trail who have no idea what they have gotten themselves into and you'll have your hands full. Myself and my partners saved a group of 5 from hypothermia(thats a whole long story in itself, all I'll say is make sure you completly trust your group "leader"), one of my own group had to be pulled up from a nasty fall when a part of the trail collapsed under him, and there were the people who fell into the surge channels. We also luckily enough climbed down to Tsusiat falls just in time to find 2 guy's who had tried the beach route but turned back and were now trapped because the surging ocean had cut them off. Had we not come along an innocent mistake could have killed them. All in all I say that this is probably one of the most senic and funnest trips I have ever been on and I'd reccomend it to any experienced hiker. Every year people have to be rescued from the trail, and people do die on it all to often, if you are not an experienced hiker and you are not fit I do not reccomend this hike for you. |
