Week 6 - Putting the lid on it!

Tuesday September 18th - Friday 28th
This week started with the final push to get the roof done, and the building secure. On Sunday the Ugandan team left to go homeward, and the four roofers left on Wednesday 26th, with the roof on and windows and doors in.

It should be said that this is a fairly basic structure, so the remaining work is basically to plaster internal walls, put floor screed down, and complete the well with hand pump (half done). A small additional toilet block was planned over the second sess pit. All this will be done in time with Kenyan labour.

Wednesday September 19th. Testing the new dining room as the evening cools rapidly outside.

Inside the washrooms, with the corner gulley structure looking good.

Monday September 24th. Getting to the end of the roof.

Wednesday September 26th. Across the courtyard - we have an essentially complete structure.

Mixing concrete for the verandah...

and pouring it. The whole inside wall has a verandah, as shade given by the roof is invaluable in the heat of the day.
Other things going on...

This panel was created in recognition of everyone who was involved in the building of the centre.

David admires Dave's doors.

Joelle displays the collection of sports equipment donated by people in the UK for the children.

The Doyle Room. A plaque on the wall reads "In memory of Tommy and Vera Doyle".

Matt plants a tree.

The sun sets over the Glory Rehabilitation Centre
- until another day.

We have all returned home now. It is now up to those in Kenya who will start the outreach to children on Nairobi's streets. After the plastering of walls and screeding of floors, some camps and then a residential work will start - hopefully early in 2002.
