Kauaeranga Valley - Pinnacles

Historical Perspective

What can one say. Im not historian ! just fascinated with the history of this area. The Coromandel being close to Auckland with easy sea transport was an area rich in natural resources for the settlers. Unfortunately by the end of the 18'th century rape and pillage seemed to be the order of the day with vast tracts of land being clear felled of Kauri as well as huge gold mining operations laying waste to the area. Huge bush fires in the early 19'th century compounded the problem.

Mother Nature is remarkable in her ability to recover from such devastation
