Backpacks
Overnight pack Approx. 60 litres (smaller for the younger and/or lighter ones)
Daypack Capable of carrying wet weather clothing, food and water and drink
Pack liners Large plastic bags to line pack and keep equipment dry
Bedding
Sleeping bag 2 –3 season (capable of –10 degrees)
Cell foam mattress Or equivalent (barrier between you and the ground)
Ground sheet Water proof tarp to keep out moisture
Footwear
Socks Wool for warmth (pair for each day) Always carry a spare pair
Tramping boots Substantial (loose scoria) Waterproofed (Wet conditions) Warm (Snow)
