Chihuahuan Desert

We now live in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert. There is abundant wild life and incredible scenery. The vistas are endless. Most of these pictures were shot on a friend's ranch. The red barked tree you see here is Texas Madrone, similar to the ones you see in California, but only 10-20 feet tall. Santa Elena Canyon is found in Big Bend National Park, and features walls over 1,000 ft. high. Standing at the bottom, I imagined that I could take a running start and jump from one rim to the other.

The Rattle Snake is a 4 1/2 ft. Western Diamond Back. Although this picture is hard to see, this snake has caught and half swallowed a full grown Jack Rabbit. These rabbits weigh about 5-7 lbs. While we watched, the snake swallowed the entire rabbit in about 15 min.

Check back often for additional pictures we will be adding as soon as we dig them out.
