The Complete Beginners Fishing Guide
(In and around Malaysia)

What About Safety?

Buddy  -  Never go fishing alone. Just like diving or most outdoor sports, you will need a buddy with you. This will allow you to turn to him/her for help if something bad happens.

Where and When  -  Tell someone at home exactly where you are going to fish and when you will be returning. If you do not return at the said time or date, a search and rescue expedition could be organized at the said place quickly.

Dehydration  -  Avoid dehydration by drinking a lot of water. Many people get dehydrated without knowing it and this could sometime mean death. One of critical symptom is being unable or stop to perspire under the hot sun.

Life Jacket  -  Keep your life jacket near you or better wear it when you are fishing from a boat and especially at night. This could mean life or death.

The Catch -  Do not eat fishes or handle them if you are not familiar about it, especially colouful ones. Ask someone that knows about it first. These fishes could be poisonous or venomous.

First Aid  -  Every group should have at least one first aid kit in case of emergency. Make sure you have ammonia or vinegar in it as this is most useful when someone gets hurt from snake bites, stings and venomous fishes by pouring it over the wound to absorb the venom/poison.

Sharp Objects  -  Always keep all hooks, lures, gaffs and anything sharp in safe places to avoid some from triping over it and hurting themselfs.

Alcohol  -  Alcohol and Fishing DON'T mixed well.
