Communique of the Consolata 500th Wolf Cub Pack
Vol.2, No. 1 (Aug 1998)
Dear cubs, parents, and newcomers;

Welcome to Consolata 500th Wolf Cub Pack.

Last year was another fun-filled year. We managed to accomplish
many things. With the help from some of our sponsors and
friends:
Notre Dame de Consolata Church; Fall Camp and Christmas Play
To All Parents; Breakfast with Santa
Altapex; Winter Camp & Cross Country Skiing
Beco Industries, Montreal Shipping Ltd.; Year End Prizes
CP Rail; Summer Camp

Well summer is over and school is soon to start. It also means
another year of excitement and fun is coming your way every
Friday night starting with registration on September 4th at
7:00pm.

Each cub will be encouraged to participate in all our outdoor
activities as well as the indoor ones. Parents we encourage you
to participate in an activity with our group. Let us know what
your interests are.

BADGES
I would like to do more badge work assisted by parents or adults.
So parents if there is a specialty that you want to share with
us, please advise the cubmaster or the assistant leaders.

One thing to emphasize is that the kids are responsible for
earning the badges on their own -- even if that means they come
to me and say that so many other kids want to do this badge--will
you help us?

POINTS & REWARDS
Last year we had a great success with this. Each cub
automatically starts the meeting with full points (1 for
uniform, 1 for the cub handbook and pencil, 1 for being on time,
1 for cleanliness). However, as you can see if they do not have
the uniform (Blue pants/jeans, scout shirt, neckerchief, and cap)
they will not be awarded that point. In addition beans will be
given out during the evening for participation, sportsmanship in
games, and good deeds for a maximum of three beans per week.
Each cub can earn up to 4 points for an evening and three beans
that can be exchanged for certain patches. The cub can exchange
10 points to earn 1 bean and 10 beans gets you a patch.

WHAT ARE WE DOING ?
Some activities are already planned for the year. For example,
in October the annual Consolata Cubs Thanksgiving weekend camping

us, to make it one great camping experience ! Hope to see you

DO YOUR BEST !
TENDERPADS The first time cub is called a tenderpad and before becoming a cub he must do a few things that are required of all aspiring cubs. He must recite and know the Wolfcub Promise, the Wolfcub Law and the Wolfcub Motto. It is very important that each new cub know these and also know the story of Lord Baden-Powell. Have no fear, however, in our very first meeting Akela will talk about what cubbing is about and with the help of Baloo, Hathi, Bagheera and Raksha and all the jungle friends, the new cub will be accepted into the Pack. The cub program is for youths between the ages of 8 and 11. Cubbing is built around a lively variety of games, crafts, music, storytelling, play acting, spiritual fellowship and the outdoors. The Cub program focuses around six activity areas: The Natural World, Outdoors, Creative Expression, Healthy Living, Home and Community, and Canada and the World. Individual interests and skills are recognized through simple awards. The outdoors is an essential part of the Cub program. Weekend events, hikes and overnight camping opportunities round out the Cubbing experience. Cubs meet in a group called a pack. The pack is split into smaller groups called sixes. There is one leader for every six Cubs. Each Cub learns a promise, law and motto to help guide their personal development.
