Greenlough G.A.C.History
St.Oliver Plunkett's, Greenlough was formed in 1939 by Michael Henry, Patrick Rankin and Louis Madden and have been on the go ever since.
The club has won the Junior county titles of 1953 and 1965 and have since won the Intermediate county championship in 1976.
Although we won no championships at that time, their greatest team was probably in the forties with players like Thomas Edward McCloskey, Jimmy Cassidy and the McErlean Brothers who wore the county shirt during Derry's great spell in the mid-forties. In more recent times the club have seen better times with numerous U-12, U-14, and U-16 championships and also in 1995 a
fine win in the South Derry minor championship, beating Slaughtneill at Swatragh.
During the centenary year (1984) Greenlough have opened a new park and pavilion, a magnificent complex which hosted the centenary county final.
In Scor, Greenlough have won two All Ireland titles- In Senior Ceili dancing and in Junior Ballad groups. The McAteer family won the Ballad title on their second successive appearance in the All Ireland Final in 1976.
